Okay, here’s the scoop! Colt Seavers is a stuntman totally head over heels for Jody Moreno, an assistant director. But then—bam!—he gets into a rough accident on set. It rattles him so much he starts thinking about leaving the stunt world altogether and even considers ending things with Jody. Down on his luck, he ends up working as a valet.
Out of nowhere, Gail, a producer, rings him up with a deal that’s too juicy to pass: join in on the stunts for “Metalstorm,” which just so happens to be the debut directorial project of his ex. But here’s the kicker—Jody didn’t invite him; Gail did! And she’s got another task for him: find Tom Ryder, the movie’s star who vanished without a trace. Oh, and fun fact? Colt used to be Ryder’s stunt double.
Now let’s talk about action—Leitch has a talent for it! You remember John Wick and all that awesomeness? Yeah, he’s bringing those skills here again. It’s like when Deadpool 2 got weirdly awesome – same vibe here with trippy scenes where Colt’s having some wild visions. There’s one bar fight scene that’ll make you think you’re watching Scott Pilgrim-style madness!
And hey, credit where it’s due—Drew Pierce penned one heck of a script that’s packed with funny lines and quirky side characters that keep you entertained throughout.
A really cool part is Winston Duke showing up as the stunt coordinator in “Metalstorm,” always spouting quotes from famous action films. Totally steals the show sometimes!
In this movie, the main guy fights just like a bunch of heroes from different films. He copies moves from characters like Hawkeye in “The Last of the Mohicans” to Jason Bourne. Hannah Waddingham, known from “Ted Lasso,” plays a producer who’s all about big dreams and weird ideas on what her cheesy movies mean. Ryan Gosling steals the show, as usual, showing he’s great at playing roles where he doesn’t take himself too seriously. There’s even a scene with him stuck in traffic that feels like he’s joking about his own role in “The Gray Man.” Emily Blunt teams up with him nicely, switching between being tough and playful as needed in this rom-com vibe.
The movie is loosely based on an ’80s TV show called “The Fall Guy,” which was also about stuntmen but has an English title that’s kind of a pun—it means both a stuntman and a scapegoat.
So, our hero gets set up pretty soon with this twist that makes fun of movie-making itself. He’s got to prove he’s innocent while there’s a clash between CGI-packed movies and real-deal explosions with stunt crews trying to save the day against the producer’s goons. Oh, and speaking of stunts, they pulled off something record-breaking—a crazy number of vehicle turnovers!
Imagine this: a car spins in the air, doing eight and a half loops, thanks to an explosion. It’s wild, right? That gutsy maneuver was pulled off by stunt driver Logan Holladay.
The movie ends on a high note with plenty of fun elements. There’s this hilarious fake movie trailer called “Metalstorm,” featuring a surprise guest we won’t spoil for you. As the credits roll, they give credit where it’s due by showing some behind-the-scenes footage and the brave stunt crew in action. To top it all off, there’s an extra scene with one last laugh and a special nod to the classic series “Professione pericolo.”
